What exactly is a “Full Stack Developer”?

The exact nature depends on which industry (and company) you are talking to. In general a full stack developer is going to be able to:

  1. Manage the server infrastructure. This can mean dealing with system setup and maintenance, package installation, DNS, load balancing, etc.

  2. Write server code

  3. Write client code

We didn’t feel like spending the money to hire three new employees, so you get to do all the work instead.

Well, if your company wants to overwork you, they can give you three peoples worth of work whether you’re full stack or not. They can do that in any job.

On the flip side, a good company is going to properly assign your workload, again whether you are full stack or not.
